A sensation in society and official circles followed a confession of Frau Momm, the aristocratic wife of the Governor of Postdam, that she was responsible for a series of thefts of silverware and casli from the Governor’s official residence. Suspicions were aroused when the Frau’s story of a masked bandit's visit was found to contain discrepancies. She later confessed to her husband, who informed the police, and submitted his own resignation. The wife stated she took the money to pay some big drapery hills.
