RACING & GATE RECEIPTS.
COMPLIMENTARY TICKET ISSUE. DRASTIC REDUCTION MADE. OHINEMURI CLUB’S EXPERIENCE. For its annual meeting, which was conducted on Saturday and Monday, the Ohinemuri Jockey Club resolved upon a very important step—the drastic elimination of the complimentary ticket issue, and the introduction of popular charges for admission. These were fixed at 5s 'to the lawn (men) and 2s (ladies). The complete 'success of the move is indicated by the fact that the gate receipt for the two days showed an increase of £536 over the returns from this avenue at last season’s meeting. Action was taken by the Waikato Racing Club at its Spring fixture this season, and by the Waikato Trotting Club at its Summer meeting in the same direction, success being achieved in botii instances. With the example through the action of the Ohinemuri Club as the latest guide, the proposal to abolish the complimentary ticket issue and reduce admission charges to a popular figure will gain still further ground among racing and trotting clubs. While it has been pointed out previously, the fact can again be referred to that the gate receipts form the principal avenue for the financial sustenance of the clubs.
