IN HOLLYWOOD.
MISS BATHIE STUART. This is from a Hollywood paper:—• Miss Bathie Stuart, pretty New Zealand dancer and songstress, has been in California for several months, but she hasn't, learned what California men are like! She accepts the -women of the State as “the most wonderful in the world,” and dismisses the men as “merely nice and charming.” “I haven't met many of your men yet,” Miss Stuart explained ns a reason for her doubts concerning western males. “Those I have met, of course, are very nice and charming, but it’s your women who appeal to me. They get out and do things for themselves; they arc independent; they are wonderful!” And although Miss Stuart is here as an official “publicity agent” for the New Zealand Government, she forgot her “duty” as far as to declare that California even exceeds her native land for scenic charm. “We (have wonderful scenery in New Zealand, and I can say quite truthfully that it is a nice place to visit.” said Miss Stuart, “but as a place to live, to enjoy one’s self, give me California.” Miss Stuart, whose speciality is interpretation of the chants and dances of the Maoris, recently finished sound accompaniments and a prologue for a motion picture of New Zealand filmed in her native land by a Hollywood company. She and Miss Gene O’Hara. I,os Angeles music critic, are attending the eleventh annual convention of the California Federation of Music clubs at the Hotel Oakland.
