Owing to these diatriots beiug somo weeks earlier than Waikato, their grain harvest was proceeding, or we should say ought to bavo been proceeding, just when tho weather was at its worst, Consequently both hay and grain liavo been lareely'-spoilt, Crops have rotted, cut and uncut, and a very largo portion'of the industrious farmer's roturn for Lis year's labour has been lost, Those • with tho longest experience cannot recall ouch a season, and we trust it will bo lonp before we chronicle such another. In Waikato tho mm harvest is considerably later, many wheat crops now just turning ripe. It is possible, therefore, that tho weather may yet, after doing its worst, tilko up sufficiently to allow tho later crops being Baved in good order. In any case, however, wo fear that the present season, with its procession of rain and floods will beat tho record as fnr as damaged and ultorly destroyed crops of • hay, grain and potatoes are concerned,
