PUKEKURA ROAD BOARD.
: A meeting of the Pukekura Road Board was held at the Pukarimu school-room, on ' Monday 16th July. Present: Messrs R. 1 Reynolds, Jas. Anderson, R, W. Mears, 1 and Daniel Galey the newly elected member. Mr 11. Buttles Resignation,-The : secretary was instructed to write' to Mr Buttle, thanking him for his services. Gravel Reservk.-A letter was read ' from the Commissioner nf Crown Lands, intimating that Lot 1, Cambridge West, containing about two acres had been vested in the Board.-The secretary, Mr ; H. Fitzgerald, was thanked .for his foresight in obtaining this section as it contains a valuablesoamof gravel of sufficient extent to provide for all the requirements of tho Board for many years to come. Fusns at 'lnterest; The secretary was instructed to renew the depositor £l5O for a further term of six months. ' ' \ Road Works.—Mr Anderson 'reported that m conjunction .with Mr Buttle the following tenders had been received aud dealt with: —Olaving on Gnbbin's Road: Thus. Oowloy, gravelling £11; forming, 3s Gd (accepted). F. (VNeill, gravelling £l4; forming, f>3 Gd.—Olearins drain: A. Shaw, Gs Gd per chain (accepted); Thos. Cowley, 8s per chain. '■.'■/■ ■ Gravel.—Mr Mears was authorised to write to Otorohanga for gravel and with Mr J. Anderson to make the necesrary arrangements with the contractors for discharging the trucks. Cutting Furze,-The Clerk reported that the contractors had cut furze on roads adjoining private owners lands, the same not beiim included in their specifications. Tho opinion was expressed that only the numbers i named in their specifications should have been cut, as the Board had no authority to interfere with private owners lots, so long as they were willing to cut the same themselves; but as the contractors were undcr.the.impressipn that the whole of the lots had to be cut, it w:us decided to take no further action in the matter. The Clerk reported that several of the private owners had paid their share for cutting thefurze'.' ■' Repairing Roads.-Mr Mears reported tint he had employed Mr Shaw two halfdays .in repairing, roads at Ohaupo. An account for 5s was passed for payment.— Mr Oaley pointed out that 'considerable damage was done to; the district roads by the contractor taking gravel for the county roads from .the Board's pit at Putney. This matter was left with Messrs Galey and Audersnn to enquire into and report.' Mr Caley was empowered to get a.few holes filled up in tho road near the milk factory. —Mr Reynolds reported.that Mr Harris had agreed to form that part of Raleighstreet near Mr. Jarrett's for £2. It was estimated that after 1 paying for works in progress there would be a balance to credit of £SO. :.'■: Rate,-The Clerk was instructed to take the necessary stops to notify the; Board's intention to make a rate of a halfpenny in the £ for the year ending 31st March, 1833, payable on 20th March, 1893.
