THE PANAMA CANAL.

Eiffel admits having received 33,000,000 francs for contracts, and of that amount ho only spent 5,000.000 on the works, keeping the balance for himself. ' It is reported that M. de Freycinot ' has confessed to receiving 2,000,000 francs from the Panama Canal Company for secret purposes. The Panama Canal revelations are weakening the closely cordial relations which have lately existed between France and Russia, A statement, which has been published, shows that the Panama Canal Company's bonds and shares realised . 1,434,000,000 franos. Of this amount 550,000,000 francs were expended on tbe works, 410,000,0000 francs were spent by the company itself, and the balance went to the contractors. EfM received 15,000,000 francs for the supply of materials, which only cost him 2,000,000 francs, London, January 12. The Pall Mall Gazette 6ays it is publicly rumoured in Paris, and also hinted by the newspapers that Wohrenheim was bribed by the Panama Canal Company.
