The new Benevolent Home was visited by the Govrrnor anil Lady Glasgow, today, who highly commended the appearance and arrangements of the building. The H'ispitil has now nine more patients Hun there is accommodation for. A yoang woman in domestic service, reported to the police that a man who bad promised to marry her had decamped with her savings, £'llo, which she had lent him on tho pretence of purchasing the lease of an hotel. The man is believed to be in Sydney. At the Educational Institute to-day, Mr Grusdy speaking in favour of tha establishment of a Court of Appeal for teachers, said at present teachers had absolutely no security of tonure, and much as the Educaton De| artment might desire lo remedy •natters under the existing state of the administration of the Act, a remedy could not be found. He concurred with the proposal that the Boards should lie apwroachnd on the subject, and he believed that the majority of them would foil in with tho idea. Eventually it was decided to approach the Education BonrJs on the subject.
