WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The usual monthly meeting nf tho Waipa County Council was held at tho Council Chambers, Ohaupo, at 11 am, on Tuesdiy, There were present: Crs.- Lsng (chairman), Smith, Tea-dale, • Anderson. Kusabs, and Exelby.-Mr A, Armstrong, County Engineer, was nlso in a .tendance, Rotouts.-Tlio Clerk reported that during tho month of December ho had received and paid into tho Bank £ll6 7s 2d. Auctioneers' licenses had been granted to Messrs J. McNicol and W. J. Hunter, both of Ohaupo, £BO being paid in fees, A special licenso Imd been issued to Mr 6, F. McCullagh for the4th and sth January, during the temporary absence of Mr McNicol, 10s being paid for the same.—The Clerk laid upon the table a lithographed map of the County, showing tlm section' ivliich belong to owners, absentees, etc., from whom the Council receive no rates. A copy of the map will shortly be sent to each councillor to enable tliem to locate tho various sections on the ground. A list of defaulting ratepayers (45) against whom summonses liavo been issued was also laid on the table. Of the current rate, 1892-93, struck in September last, £452 18s lid had bo>m col-lected,-The Bank credit balance at date was £'239 13s 9d, and the contractors' deposit account was £3115s also in credit. - The Engineer, in his monthly report, stated that all the contracts let at the last sitting of the Council had been taken up, but owing to tho ho'idays, combined with the wet weather, tho progress had not been great. Contract N'o. 160, grading a portion of the County road in Te Awamutti, had been satisfactory completed; Contract No, 161 having been also completed with the exception nf somo additional minding required. The cutting of furze on the road adjoining Lots 106 and 107, Parish of Ngaroto, Ini,| been lotto L, McKinnon.to clear, the owner, on whom notice to clear had been served, having failed to comply with it. Tbo contract for keeping the gratings, eta., clean at Ngaruawahia expired during tho month, and tho Engineer recommended that' tho offer ot J Erickson (who curried out tho work in a satisfactory manner Inst year), be again accepted, he having agreed to do the work on the same terms. Ho also reported, ro the erection of drinking troughs, that a good site for a eonvenience of this nature on the HamiltonOhaupo road could be got at tho brick culvert near Mr Hibbs, Tho ground is swampy and in its present condition hardly safe for horses to approach, but this difficulty might tie overcmno by putting down some fascines and covering them with gravel. The eiril anliment should also be widened at the same time as this slope has been trodden down till there is little more than room for a trap to pass. The only means of getting a trough at Havelock'a bridge is to Prect one in the slopo nf the cutting, leading the water in by means of a ditch along tho back of tho slope. It is vrry doubtful howe.-er, whether the supply by this means could bo depended on as it would in a great moasnre bo obtained from tlm surface which would most likely fail at tho time when it was mott urgently needed, —lt was decided tn accept Ericksnn's offer to keop tho gratings in Ngaruawahia clean for 12 months for £2 las.-Tho matter of tho drinking troughs at Mr Hibbs' on the llainilton-Ohaupo road and at Havelock's L»ap bridgo was held over for the present, Accounts.—Payment of the following accounts w.n authorised:—H. Tb Rohk Roads,—Mr Robert Hall, of One-tree Hill, Kpsu'ii, in forwarding a cheque fur his r.itas requested that several nf .tho lulls near Te Roro bo gravelled.Cr. Smith said no doubt this work required doiog and he would recommend that 8 or 10 chains of g-avlling bo dune.—lt was decided to call for tenders fur tho work, to bo in at next meeting.

FUMK.-Mr Edwin Robinson wrote, calling attention to the furze on the road near. Legertwood's,.and.also inked that Home gravel be' put on the hill near the same place,—Cr, Smith suid that there was no one to get at in connection with this proporty, as Legertwnod 'said that he did not own it when there was anything to be dime. At present the furze was only a couple of feet high, «n<l he thought it would be better to let it grow and cut it down later on.—Cr, Smith said that the hill complained of required attention and it was decided to get it done, Beii'h Road,-Mr James Raynes drew attention to the road from Mr Boll's corner to his property and asking that something be done to repair it,—Cr. Exeloy said that nothing had been done in that district for some years, but he was afraid there were no funds available.—Tho engineer pointed out that from the Narrows read to this property there was a very good road—much better than in many other parts of tho county.—The engineer was instructed to inspect the road aud report. Trout.—Cr, Smith moved that the Council mako application to the Acclimatisation Society to have trout placed in the various streams in the County.— Seconded by Cr. Teasdile and carried, Loan,—The chairman moved that a special meeting lie held on February 14th, for the purpose of rescinding a resolution passed at n special mooting in July, 1837, with refennco to borrowing.—Seconded by Cr.
