Willi,E some persons were engaged thawing frozen dynamite cartridges bi fore a fire in a tunnel in course, of construction on Long Tsland an explosion occurred, destroying the tunnel anil wrecking the post office. Houses within a radius of a milo were severely shaken, the furniture beincr injured and almost all the windows broken. A .seaman and three women wera killed, while eighteen other persons were injure I. o:ie man lying on a sofa had his throat cut by falling glass, and instances are mentioned where others lost, their arms or had their eyes gouged out.
