CAMBRIDGE WEST.
The breaking up of the Cambridge West School was celebrated in the usual mannersports being held during the day, and a concert in the evening. Besides the children a large number of old scholars, old teachers, parents and friends were present, and a very enjoyable day was spent. The sports were superintended by the teachers and members of the committee, and consisted of seventeen events allot which were well contested. A novel feature in the programme consisted of a " Rig-man " (Mr T. A. Hicks), who was drassed in rugs and patches, and covered with bags (,f lollies. In thn excitable chase that followed he was sonn relieved of his attractive burden and his rags, and run down breathless and exhausted by a hundred hunters. As usual, more than an abundance of delicious eatables were provided for luncheon and tea. The concert was presided over by Mr Allen, Chairman of the Committee. There was rather a long programme, but as the items were mostly short, it was not protracted and at nine o clock the room was cleared for dancing. At the conclusion of the concert mutual thanks were expressed. The success of the concert was largely due to one of the elder scholars, Alic Miller, who prepared seve.al of the musical perfifrmers, and accompanied their songs ,-n the organ. The following was the programme :—Chorus, "Farewell to Study"; recitation, " Drifted to Sea," Blanche Reynolds ; song, "Fairy Land," Fanny Tucker; recitation, "How They did it Long Ago," Louie Hill ; chorus, "'Fairy Song"; recitation, Gertie Allen; song, "The Prairie Flower," May Hicks; recitation, "'Will's Widow," Mary Tucker; chorus, "Now Pray We for Our Country "; recitation, "A Little Boy's Speech," Willie Jarrett; song, "Watching for Pa," Florrie Miiler; recitation, '"The Newsboy's Debt," Louie Jarrett; quarette, "Pickles"; recitation, "Little Girl's Song to Her Dull," Kitty Hicks; chorus, "The Voice of the Watchman"; recitation, "I'm so Tired," Lily Chambers; song, "Points of View," B.
