BOXING DAY.

SPOUTS AT HAMILTON:. The Hamilton Annual Sports were held on Sydney Square, and were in every way an unqualified success. The weather was all that could be desired for sisch a gathering, and the attendance during the afternoon must have been close on 1300, £45 being taken at the gates, with children, competitors, and subscribers admitted free. The Freetrader (Capt- J. Gall) with the Ngaruawahia Band on board ran up fro.n Hunt.iy, Taupiri, and Ngaruawahia having about 250 excursionists, by whom the outing was immensely enjoyed, the trip up and down the river being exceptionally pleasant. Everything that could be done had been done by the committee to ensure tho success of the gathering, and during the day the mombers all worked hard in currying out the programme. The following were the officials :—Judge, Mr Isaac Coates ; starter, Mr G. H. Carter ; handioappers Messrs C. J. W, Barton and T. G. Sandes ; secretary,Mr C. J. W. Barton ; all of whom discharged their duties satisfactorily. The Hamilton Brass Band, under Bandmaster Meachem, was present during the day and did much to enliven the proceedings. Mr J. T. Homo dispensed refreshments at the pavilion, and with Mr T. Buxton across the way appeared to be well patronised. Seventeen events were set down for discussion, the principal being the Hamilton Cup, which was won by F. Davis with six points, W. Bishop coming second with four. The Amateur Cup was won by C. Taylor with seven points, V, Papesch and A. H. Selby tying for second honours with five paints each. Smith won the mile from scratch, and Ryan with 30 yards tho halfmile. Both Cups fell ti the l»t ef Hamilton boys who had previously no record. The following are the detailed results :— Maiden Rack, lOC yards. First prize, £1 ; second ss. F. Davis 1 F. Ryan 2 G. Clark, A. Hall, A. S. Reid, W. Reid also ran. Win by about H yards. Boys' Race under 10, 100 yards Handicap. First prize, 10s ; second, 5s ; third, 2s (id. O'Hallaron 1 Kelly 2 Clarke 3 250 Yards Handicap Hurdles. Over six hurdles, 3ft. Gin. First prize, £2 : second, 10s ; third, ss. S. White (25 vards) 1 J. F. Reid (30 yards) 2 W. Livingstone (15 yards) ... 3 W. Bishop (scr), J. Cowling (15 yards), R. Harrison (15 yards), O. M. Gleeson (25 yards), J. Ryan (25 yards) also ran. Won by yard. Hamilton Cup. First prize, £15 ; second, £3; third, £2 ; to bo judged by points. The first it 'ge of 100 yds. was run off in two heats and a final. A. E. Fielder and F. Davis won their heats, and for the final the result was : F. Davis (12yds.) 1 W. Bishop (Gyds.) 2 J. Cowling (Gyds.) 3 The other starters in the final were : A. E. Fielder (Byds), A. Hall (10yds.), and F. C. A. Parsons (11yds.). Amatkur Cup ; to be judged by points. First prize, trophy value £5 ; second, trophy valued £1 10;; third, trophy valued 10s. First stage, 100 yds. R. Liheau (Bvds.) 1 V. Papesch (7vds.) 2 C. Tavlor(Byds.) 3 H. D. Dansev (scr.), R. Parr (scr.) and A. H. Selby (Gyds.) also ran. Tilting in the Ring. Once round the course. First prize, nickel silver watch and chain, presented by Mr H. Howden, Hamilton ; second, ss. R. Libeau 1 J.Clarkin 2 Twelve entries. Hamilton Cup (second stage), 220 yds. F. Davis (20v.K) 1 W. Bishop (13yds.) 2 J. Cowling (12yds.) 3 Amateur Cup (second stage), 220 yds. C. Taylor (10yds.) 1 V. Papesch (lOvds.) t A. H. Selby (lOvds.) t Boys' Rack, under 12 years, 100 yds. First prize, 7s Gd ; second, 2s Gd Kelly 1 Hope 2 Half-mile Race Handicap. First prize, £3 ; second, £1. J. Ryan (30 vards) 1 J. F. Reid (GO yards) 2 J. F. H. Smith (scr.) 3 W. Livingtone (20 vards) A. Turner (20 vards); R. Harrison (10 yards); G. E. Clark (-15 yards); C. Smith also started. This was -me of the best races of the day, Ryan winning rather easily at the finish. A protest was entered against Ryan on the ground that lie had not run the full distance, but it was dismissed. Handicap Thotting Race, about three miles. First prize, £5 : second, £1 ; third, a hi idle printed by Mr J as. Reid. Mr Buxton's Rat, (120 yards) ... 1. Mr Mayes'Flirt (150 yards) ... a Mr Cassidy's Darkev (scr.) ... 3 Ten horsf.-s started, won easily by Rat. Cic.ui andUmhuki.la Race. Three times round course. First prize, 30s; second

W. Crawford 1 H.Hyde 2 Nine entries. Hamilton- Cup (third stage), 440 yard?. W. Bishop 1 F. C. A. Parsons 2 J, Cowling.. 3 l'ishnp won this easily. The points now, were: Davis, o' ; \V. Bishop. 4: J. Cowling, 3 ; F. Parsons, 3. The two latter being a tie for third money, ran off the middle distance, 220 yards, when Parsone won, therefore, gaining third prize. Amatkub Cup (third stage), 440 yards handicap. C Taylor (18yds) 1 A. H. Selby (18yds) 2 V. Panesch (18yds) 3 Won easily. Onk Milk Handicap. Ist prize, £5 ; 2nd, 30* ; 3rd, 20s. J. F. H.
