HARAPEPE.
Highway Board Meeting.—A meeting nf the Pirongia Highway District Board was held in the school house, on Saturday last, the 3rd December. A resolution was brought before the Board by the chairman, that the Board grant the sum of £7 as rent for the use of the school house, the Highway Board having used it for the last twelve years, and the money being urgently required to repair the building, the Board voted the money. Mr J. H. Thompson, who attended the misting, stated that as soon as he heard that the Bard of Ejuca tion refused to repair the school house and had resolved to sell the building*, he had canvassed the district to get a petition up to send down to the Board to stop the sale of it, and also to see how much much money could be raised bv a subscription in the event of the Board still refusing to do the repairs, he had obtained signatures to the amount of £U 10s, but there was a great lack of public spirit in the district, as several families who had received the uru.itjst beii'.'lit fr»m the school when ooen. having had their families educated at it, did not now scorn to care if the district was deprived of the building, or of ever having a school in it On the principle, I suppose, of the man, who, when reminded about, posterity, replied: "Oh, hang posterity, it never did anything for me." The Wk-vthku.—The weather still continues very unsettled, and sheep shearing has been delayed very much, in all other respects growing crops, grass, etc., there is nothing to complain of, as on the whole, they are looking well.
