ELECTION PETITION.
BOROUGH OF HAMILTON. The following is a copy of the petition against the late election of Mr R. F. Sandes, for the office of Mayor to the Borough of Hamilton. In our advertising columns Capt. Jackson, R.M., has fixed Friday, December 16th, as the date for hearing the argument* in support of the contention of the petition : —
" We, the undersigned electors of the Borough of Hamilton, hereby declare that we verily believe that at the election to the office of Mayor of the said Borough of Hamilton holden at Hamilton aforesaid on the thirtieth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and ninety two, at which Robert Fitzmaurice Sandes was declared to be duly elected to tho said office, the election of the said Robert Fitzmaurice Sandes is void upon the following grounds:
1. —That George Edgecumbe, an elector gave in favour of the said Ruber* Fitzmaurice Sandes more votes than he was entitled to give.
2.—That James Hume an elector gave in favour of the said Robert Fitzmaurice Sandes more votes than he was entitled to give. 3.—That Isaac Coates an elector gave in favour of the said Robert Fitzmaurice Sandes more votes than he was entitled to give. 4,—That Robert J. Gwynne an elector gave in favour of the said Robert Fitzmaurice Sandes more votes than he was entitled to give. s.—That George Henry Carter an elector gave in favour of the said Robert Fitzmaurice Sandes more votes than he was entilled tigivo. 6.—That William de Renzie Turner, a person who was not entitled to vote at the said election, voted thereat in favour of the said Robert Fitzmaurice Sandes.
And we pray that enquiry may be made into the said election under the provisions of "The Regulations of Local Elections Act, 1876," and that the said election may be declared to be void.
