AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKETS.
Messrs A. Buokland and Sons' ReroiiT. —At the Haymarket, during the past week, meadow hay has brought from 2s 6d to 3s 3d ; oaten sheaves, 3s (id to 3s Jd per cwt. Maize has advanced in price, good samples being 2s 9d on the wharf. Waikato potatoes, 20s to 25s per ton. On 1' riday, horse stock yarded plentifully. Young sound animals sold freely, and brought from £12 to £20; medium quality, £8 to £10 each. On Tuesday, hides were at late values. Ox hides ranged from 2d to 3gd ; cow hides, l|d to 2Jd ; calfskins, 3d to 5Jd per lb; tallow, 15s to 17s 3d; horns, 4s ; bones, 4s 9d per cwt, At Pukekohe, on Monday, there was the largest muster of cattle yet held. Bidding was brisk throughout, and higher values for store cattle were obtained than nt any previous sale. On Wednesday, bidding fjr tho Glendowie estate did nut reach the reserve expected, and it was withdrawn; but we have to report the sale of Mr Woodward's farm, at East Tamaki, 115 acres at £20 per acre; Mr Hobbs' farm, at Pokeno, 40 acres, at £8; and Mr Kelleher's farm, at Mauku, 316 acres, at 16s an acre. At Jtemuera, on Thursday, dairy cattle, in less numbers than usual, were better worth; prices for cows near calving ranged from £5 to £7 10s; store cattle fully kept their late values; calves in usual number, 45 sold, were without alteration in price, prices ranging from 20s to 23s per 1001b. Sheep plentiful; 1300 fat sheep, 500 store sheep, and 550 lambs sold; prices easier throughout; shorn crossbred ewes, in low condition, brought 3s 9d to 4s; long-woolled shorn hoggets, 9s to lis; shorn wethers, 10s to 14s ; ewes, 8s to 12s ; wethers in their wool, 15s to 17s 9d; fat lambs fairly kept their values, prices ranging from 7s to lis each. Pigs yarded in moderate number, were generally of good quality, and sold freely at late values; porkers ranged from 20s to 28s; weaners, 7s to lis each. Messrs Hunter and Nolan's Report.— Grain, seeds, horse feed, etc.: A brisk demand for good maize has continued, but inferior was slow of sale, oven at very low prices—ls 3d to Is 6d ppr bushel; sound, 2a 2d per bushel. Oats, 2s 6d ; bran, £4 per ton ; oaten chaff, £3 to £4 per ton. Horses : The demand has been steady, and an average number brought forward and disposed of at the previous week's values. At the auction sale at the Durham Yards on Friday bidding was good throughout the sale, and spirited for strange lots, quite an average number were disposed of. We quote: —Hacks, at £4 10s to £10 10sj light harness and medium draught, from £5 7s 6d to £15 10s j heavy, draught, £12 to £21. Wool, hides, skins, tallow, bones, etc. : An increased number of dumps and bags of long fleece wool sold at from old to C.Jd per lb; locks and pieces, ljd to 3^l; stout ox hides, 3d to 4jd per lb ; steer and cows, lid to 2Jd ; calf skins, 3d to 4Jd per lb; tallow, 15* 6d to 18s 6d per cwt; bones, £4 to £4 2s 6d per ton; sheepskins, Is lOd to 4s 6d each ; pelts, 2d to 1* 3d each. Cattle: The demand has been steady for all descriptions, barely an average number changed hnnds, without noteworthy alteration in values. The Newmarket yards were but moderately supplied on Tuesday, but the Pnpakura yards were well filled on Wednesday, notwithstanding that the sale was held a week previous to its proper date, the Wool-brokers' Association having appropriated that day for the first wool sale of the season. Stores continued to sell at prices in favour of the vendor. Dairies are also scare and high for the season of the year. There was a slight drop in the price of cow beef, but steers maintained the previous week's value on the average, although 23s per 1001b was the top price far steers ; cows, 17s to 21s. Some averages of fat steers were: £9 15s, £8 lis lOd, £8113 Od, £8 10s, £7 9s Bd, £7 17a tid, £G ; cows, £7 10s, £6 13s, £6 2s 6d, £5 15s, £5 ss. Sheep were short of requirements, and were well competed for. Shorn wethers, from 12s 3d to 15s 3d each ; owes, 8s 9d to 12s 3d ; lambs, 4s 9a to lis. Pigs in limited number and small in size, sold at from 12s to 20s each.
