SUICIDE OF AN AMERICAN HEIRESS.
Considerable sensation h is boon caused ut Nic.R by the suicide of Miss Jane Armetr..::!', an American heiress, after losing her fortune of a quarter of a million dollars nt the Monaco gaming tables. She arrived iwm New York early in August, and arranged to rent a villa for several weeks in the village of Vontimig-lia, in the Gorniclie district. At first she visited the Casino from curiosity, but on tho 3rd inst. she commenced to play, and during tho day won 100.000f., No. 21, on which nho staked, proviupr th 3 winning number six times in succession at one period of tho play. Returning , to tho Casino on the following day, she continued staking heavy sums, but her goo.l fortune had deserted her, and at the end of three diiya sha hail lost 200,000 dollars of her o>wr money, iu addition to her first day's winnings. Her luck again changed, and, still adhering , to tho same number, she recovered all she had lost, aud then left the Casino, declaring that she would never play again. On Monday morning, however, sbe reappeared, and again wagered heavy sums on No. 24, with the result that at an early hour in tho evening she had lost the fortune of 250,000 dollars left to her by her parents, in addition to tho substantial sum won up to the time of her declared resolution. Returuiiisr to her residence, she letired to her room, and on Wednesday morning was found dead, shot through the heart with a revolver, which was lying beside her. She was only 20 years of i'ge.
