CABLE RATES.
0 (BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—COPYRIGHT). London, November 9. Sir John Pendeh met Sir Saul Samuel, Agent-General for New South Wales, to discuss the claim made by the Indian Government for increased, transit rate of fifteen centimes per word on Australian cables. Sir John. said he thought the claim was inequitable since India had already agreed to accept the 35 centimes for five shillings a word tariff. The AgentGeneral has decided to apply to Lord ltipon, the Colonial Secretary, for an opportunity to interview him and Lord Kimberlcy, Secretary for India, when they will urge that the demand of the Indian Government is inopportune, unreasonable and unfair, as the tariff on the Indian line is largely tho result of the reduced rates secured by colonial subsidies. They will also point out that if the demand is infisted upon it may lead to a return to the high rates.
