Williams had been placed out at work, ,\nd forwarding the account for his maintenBastablb. —James Bastablo, who is suffering from deafness and had received no bene.nt from his treatment in tho Hospital, applied for an order for admission t> the Auckland Hospital, where he cuild get special treatment. —It was pointed out that he had a grownup family, who were well able to contribute towards the cist of his treatment, but the Board did not consider that it was their place to send linn to Auckland. This Hospital was f.pen for him if he be a fit subject, but if he went t> Auckland ic would have to be at hi* own cost.— The letter vw received. Lots 138 asu 139 Kihikihi.—Mr W. M. Hay forwarded the conveyance for these lots for execution by the Board. He also stated that the Crown srant f.r 138 had never beon lifted and £5 lO.i (id was now due on it.—Only one tender was received for the lease of this property for seven year.', from James Kennedy, viz., £2 per annum for the first two years and £3 per annu.n for the last five yearn.—lt was decided nit to accept this tender as it was considered t'io low, and the matter was loft in Mr Teasdale's hands to make enquiries and endeavour to obtain more .satisfactory tenders. RKPORTB. —In his monthly report the Secretary stated theie were 21 recipients of charitable aid and 13 mule inmates in the refuge :—Finance to bank cr. b dance, £451 Oβ lid ; subsidies due by Government, £79 10s; contributions due, £80!) 18s 31 ; £ for £ subsidy on Fame, £SOO 18s 3d; hospital fees receivable about, £100; endowment rents, £10. Total, 52,2(>0 7s 3d; less accounts to be paid, £233 las; leavins an available balance of £2,020 12s sd. The expenditure for the month includes »ilaries, £07 Vu ; Thames Orphanage, £0 2s Cd ; outdoor relief, £14 2sod ; interments, £0 4s; clothing for refuge, £22 10s; rent, £6 10s; drugs, £10 19j (id ; surgical requisites, £2 19s Gd ; underclothing for lio*p:Ul, £26'; the balance being ordinary i-xpsnditure. Since last meeting the following accounts had been received and paid into the bank : Waipa Connty, £50; Cambridge Borough, £29 10s; Hospital fees, £21 2s; making a total of £100 2s. The report was received and adopted. The doctor's monthly report w*s received.

Nubse3 : Examination.—The chairman said that it was quite time the Board took some steps to arrange for the examination of the nurses. The time of the two senior probationers had expired in September, bat they had been kept on so as t , ' allow of their going up for examination. The Board had endeavoured to arrange for a central board of examiners but in this they had failed. He thought that the difficulty might be got over by requesting Drs. Kerr and Brewis, of Hamilton, and Dr. Flames of Auckland, to act as an examining Hoard. Mr Chepmell said that he did not consider the Board was compelled to provide for the exnmination of the nurses, but he was anree able to the Board doing what it conld to arrange for their examination. The Secretary slated that owing to an important letter Inning been burut in Lalor's freak he had not yet forwarded the previous corre spondence on this subject to Dr. McGregor as instructed at last meeting, but a copy of the letter had now been received and the whole correspondence would be forwarded at once. Extension of District.—ln reference to the inclusion of the counties of 'Vest Taupo and Kawhia, under this Board, Mr

Chepmell said he had looked into the matter, and ho was of opinion that the Governor had lull power to bring these counties under the operation of "The Hospital and Charitable Aid Act " (they now being specially exempted), but he was not aware whether there was sufficient ratable property in these counties to make it worth whiln taking any action. Mr (Jlieumell moved that a letter be written to the Commissioner of Tuxes asking the amount of ratable property in the counties of We*t Tiiupn and Kawhia, in order to ascertain whotlmr it i? advisable to take steps in H)is matter.— Seconded by Mr Coates and carried.

Uutlkr. —The Chairman said that Mrs Butler win in receipt of os per week, and he thought that it would be better to award her two ration* a day instead of 5s per week, as there was a contractor for rations in Hiimiit m. In all cases of charitable aid he thought it should be the duty of the Hoard t<> throw all sentiment aside and to make a pauper as much a paper as possible. Ho moved that Mrs Butler receive two rations a day instead of 5s per week, as at present.—Seconded by Mr McGuirk and carried. McLKOD.--Mr Herries applied that a young man named McLeod, who has Rone blind, be admitted temporarily to the Refuge until the Jubilee Institute for the Blind is open to receive him. His father was willing to pay for his maintenance, and it was to be understood that should there be any demand for his room that he would have to be removed.—The application was granted. Endowments.—lt was decided to call for tenders for clearing the furze on Lots 101 and 21S, Hamilton Eist.—The matter of calling for tenders for any endowments in the hands of the Board was left with the House Committee to arrange. Relief.—The usual relief was granted until next meeting of the Board, with the following exceptions :—Mrs Roycroft, Te Aroha, increaead to 5s from 3s per week ; Mrs Butler, transferred from 5i per week to two rations per day; R. B. Fitzpatrick, discontinued, he being at present in Mount Eden Gaol; R. Johnston, Cambridge, increaied to 5s from 4s per week. Special Treatment. —Mr Chepmell moved that the seerrttary >vntu t> the Auckland and Thames Boards informing them that this Board declines t) be responsible for the treatment of any patients going from thia district unless liy spociat authority from this Board.—Seconded by Mr Browne and carried. A IiKTBOSPECI'.— The Chairman aaid that as thia would bo the last occasion on which the Board would meet for the transaction of business, ho would likk) to make a few remarks as to thi year's work. During the li.iHrd'.-i tpr.n "f nffico the expenditure liarl been £2707 19s Bd, which included new buildings £009 14s 10.1, w-jter supply £80 18s, charitable aid outionr £2-16 3s 101. Refuge £176, and salaries £000, which would leave the expenditure on the Hospital about £1500. In the twelve months theiM had been 181 patients treated in the Hospital, and there had been 13 deaths. Before concluding tho Chairman returned thanks to the members of the Board for the kind treatment he had received at their hands during his term of office. He also referred to the fact that the next Board would be composed of 15 members, an additional member being granted to the Waipa County.—Mr Lang said that in the matter of thanks it was due to the chairman on whom they all knew the major portion of the work fell. He moved a vote of thanks to the chairman for the manner in which he carried out the work during the year.—Seconded by Mr Chepmell and cairied unanimously,
