CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.

TO TUB EDITOR. Sir, —May I beg a little space in your valuable paper, upon the subject of cruelty to animals, and being a great lover of animals, no one would take up a cause on their part more faithfully. The good people of Raglan have reported a case, and caused a man to be sunn'ioned for killing a dog out of its misery, and they are quite right if the deed was brutally done. But if they would be as observant for the poor horses about their district, daily brought into the township with sores upon their shoulders and backs to tho very bone, it would be very much to their credit. Thrashed for being too starved to drag loads up those hills, and their heads nearly dragged off with collars that were too small. These things I have seen, and no inspector told or the police troubled. A person in Raglan summoned for cruelty to animals is a joke, but it's a step in the right direction. Should the inspector be anxious for a few more names I can give them. There is not so much cruelty iu killing a brute outright, it is these daily torturers that should be punished. 1 have so often wondered if that law is recognised in this land. lam truly astonished to find that it is. Trusting, Mr Editor, yoa agree with me, I remain—Yours, truly, Kate Somerset.
