(BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPOND* - '*''). Auckland, LastNieht. Labour. Day was observed as a close holiday at the Government offices in Auckland. There was not, however, any demonstration, as the Eight Hours Committee decided to hold the celebration on the 9th November. A holiday was not granted to the children attending the public schools. [BY TELBSttAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION'I. Wellington, Lasi NUht. The weather was calm and line for the Demonstration, but uncertain and cloudy. The main toature of the morning was the procession which left the Government buildings at 9.45, headod by a lilli putian pony aud chaise, and traversed the train streets. There were five bands including- the Maori's from Otaki, and the usual display of banners and trado trophies, one or two of tho latter being now. Tho carpenters bad erected a substantial ecclesiastical looking structure with a roof cunuinorly designed of shavings. The temperance people had managed to insert themselves between two brewery waggons filled with barrels, and their ear containing an imitation tap room with drunken men rollina- about, drew attention to the horror of tho drink traffic, but was not at all an attractive sight. A novel feature was a band of 4S lads from the Hoys Institution, in naval uniform. The day is being kept a close holiday, and sports took place at Newtown Park in tha afternoon.
