THE DOBSON-KENNEDY COMPANY.

10 THE EDITOR. Sir,—"Fools (may) rind in whore angels foar to tread !" but that is not in the columns of your paper, judging by the ready manner in which Messrs Dobson and Kennedy rose to the bait and answered my letter. How very unkind of them to publicly notify tlie inhabitants of Waikato that lam not an angel. 1 should not like to be so rough on them as to tell them they are not angels ; but from the glib manner in which they try to deceive, I am afraid they belong to the fallen crew, who were, as Mr Dobson expresses it, "shut out." I notice these gentlemen carefully avoid stying anything about waiting 17 days before sending the deposit. No ! They say they were shut out or Cambridge on the second night "after the hall-mark you—having been booked to vis for that evening." This is neither more nor less than a downright Ho, for it implies that the hall had been booked to thnn, and Messrs .Dobson and Kennedy knew that it had not. They then ask met i enlighten the Cambridge public on a few ma'teis. I have much pleasure in complying with their request, and at the same time will teil what I know about the transaction with Messrs Dobson and Koniißdy. On August 25th they wired me: "Book ha'l Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 27th, 28th, 20th September. Full company. Reply.' I replied : "Hill booked on dates mentioned on receipt of deposit £1," The veriest blockhead must know that that meant the deposit being forthcoming before the hull was booked. I htari nothing more from them until September 12lh, when the Dargaviile postmaster wired the £1. In the meantime Mr Buckland had taken the Hall for his rink carnival I asked him to put off his carnival, but he declined as he had advertised it. I then wired Dobson and Ken- i nedy to say the hall had been engaged for | the 27th in the interim. They then tried " bounce," and wired :—" Your reply dates booked send deposit binding hold your original dales." After that lam at a loss to know why they did not. " h<-ld my original dates "if I was wrong. The fact is they knew the fault was their own, and Mr Dobson in his remarks should have told the whole truth, and not have endeavoured to throw their blame on to my shoulders. For Messrs Dot-son and Kennedy's edification—the Cambridge public know it full well—l may state that Mr F. W. Buckland "really engaged the hall," and I "played the piano that evening." I may further inform them that nil "travelling companies " have to pay a deposit r.ici'OßE the hall is booked, and that the full fee is payable nEFOUE the performance commences, im-tead of at the last moment at the Railway station, as was the case with Messrs I), and K. Should they ever visit Cambridge asain I Iru-t 'hey will bear this in mind. I was not the only one who attended at the Railway-station to get a bill « discharged, but the other individual was not so successful, and he informs me he ha.-, sent Messrs I), and K. a pressing invitation " in blue '' to return and argue the matter out before Captain Jackson, R. M. If there are any more questions I can answer for Messrs Dobson and Kennedy I shall feel a pleasure in doing so.—Yours, etc., T. Haiitlv. Cambridge, October 4lh, I*l2.
