RAGLAN.

Smiting.—The Northern Steamship Company's s.s. Glenelg (Captain Austin) arrived here from Wanganui on Friday morning. After taking cm board some 500 sheep and lambs for Mr McCutcheon, of Hawera, and which had arrived in Raglan from Waikato during the week, she proceeded on her trip to Opunake. The cutter Rose (Captain Liddle), belonging to the same company, left for Aotea on Monday last, for the purpose of bringing round a cargo of flax from Messrs Langley Brothers' mills. On Monday the Glenelg called iu on her return from the South. She had a very rough trip down. The fierce- gale that sprang up on Friday night, and continued all next day, caused"the loss of between one and two hundred of tho sheep. She again Again put in an appearance on Wednesday with a large cargo from Onehunga, whither she returned after discharging. As she was going over the bar the Rose was returning frein Aotea.

Gale.—On Friday night (September 30th), a tierce gale sprang up from the N.W. to W. and continued to blow with great violence during the whole of Saturday. Considerable anxiety was felt for tin safety of the Glenelg, which left herd on Friday afternoon. It is m«v fiome time since, we had so Kreat a blow hero. The weather hud cleared and tho wind abated on Sunday morning.

ROBBERY.—On Tuesday night (September 27th), or Wednesday morning, Mr Rendell's store in Cliff-street, Raglan, was entered and a quantity of goods, viz., rug, flannel, socks, bread, biscuits, tobacco, copper from till, etc., removed. From information received, Constable Kawiri proceeded to Waitetuna, and along with Constable Cavanagh brought in a man called John Rowe, on October 2nd. On Wednosday October 5th, the ;l '-' l |, w:l< brought before Messrs Mitchell and Pegler, J.Ps., charged with feloniously et.tJi'ingand removing tho said goods Constable Cavanagli conducted the pros-eu-ti.in, and Messrs Reodell and Rolfey, along With Constable Cavanagh, appoircd as witnesses in the case. Mr U'jndell identified the goods produced, as also did his son and Mr Koffcy, The list two witnesses had seen tho accused hanging about tho premises on the previous evening (September 27th) as they woro locking up and leaving the nt...iv.
