ALEXANDRA.

TJnpropitious Weather.—The evening of Friday last, turned out a most unfortunate date for the presentation to the winners of the trophies won at the late Waipa Amateur Athletic Sports. Rain set in about 5 o'clock p.in., and continued almost without intermission«all night, so that there were but few present at the concert and dramatic entertainment at which the presentations were to have been made. To their credit the ladies and others, who had promised their service, were present, although somewhat damp from their most unpleasant drive, many of them arriving from a considerable distance. As several of the winners were not present, the committee wisely determined to give a short concert and farce to those present, and to postpone the presentations until Friday next (to-morrow) wheu a full programme will be gone through, and it is to be hoped that Jupiter Pluvius will be more favourable, and allow of a pleasant evening's amusement.

Thk Extkutainmkxt. —The concert ami entertainment on Friday last, althomrli but short was an excellent one. AMr Harpley on a visit here, was prevailed upon to f,'ive his services, he being as it turned out, the best manipulator of the violin we have heard here. It is rumouredth;it at one time, he w.is allied to the well known Payne family of musicians who lately visited the district. As Mr Harpley has promised to play again to-morrov/, all who love to hear good music should not fail to attend, to say n< thing of the. other attractions. Mr Tylie, another visitor has also a fine tenor voicu, and his items were most acceptable. In Mr Uiirham, another face new to us, and most acceptable, has a splendid baritone voice, will also he present to morrow. The following was the programme -. — Duet, ui.innfnrtu and violin, Mrs Helps and Mr Harply; an excellent performance nnd most warmly applauded. S.ine, "Village Blacksmith, -, Mr Tylie; sung with sreat tn>te and expression. Song, " White Wings," Miss Aubin ; very sweetly sung and woll received. Song, " Anchored," Mr Durham. This was quite a snnirise and much appreciated. Mr Durham bin a poworlnl voice, which filled His hall.
