AH the principal business people of Hamilton notify their intention of closing their respectives places from 12.30 p.m, to G p.m. on Saturday next, the day of the Waikato Hunt Club races.
At a general meeting of the Hamilton Operatic Company, held on Tuesday night, it was definitely decided to play "Trial by Jury," to tie followed bv a. short comedy, on Tuesday, December 20. h.
We are in receipt ot a copy of the New Zealand Government railways timetable for October. Tho alterations since the issue of the September guide are immaterial, and do not affect the Waikato service.
We would again remind our readers of the social to be held ill the Public Hall, Hamilton, to-morrow evening. A number of vocalists new to Hamilton have promised to assist and a very attractive programme has been arranged.
Mr Lake opposed the Payment of Members Bill, pointing out that as there was no indication that tho honorarium would be increased at the last general election by candidates contesting the seats, they were not justified in increasing it during the present Parliament.
Mr Dalgleiah. passed through. Hamilton yesterday with the trotting stallion Kalderdash. This horse stood in the Waikiito last season, having been brought up from Canterbury by Mr C. Lake, who has leased him for the season to Mr Dalgleish. Balderdash, it is said, has left some capit d stock behind him in the Canterbury Province, and he seeins to be exactly the horse suited for getting fast trap and buggy horses.
Messrs Hallensteia Bros., of the New Zealand Clothing Factory, are the sole agents for New Zealand of a novelty which is now being introduced into the Waikato by their representative (Mr Gribble). It is called the "Augite Stove Mat." Nothing will bum if cooked on this mat, milk and coffee will not boil over, porridge and the like requires no stirring, and bread toasts beautifully upon it. As the Augite Mat is all that it is represented to be, we predict that every house wife wdl be ir. possession of one, the price, wa understand, being the small sum of two shillings each.
The conditions under which Messrs Reynold? and Co.'s special prize at the forthcoming Show is to be competed for are given in this issue. A special prize of a gold medal, valued at three guineas, is offered for the best cow, or heifer over nine months old, either in the classes for Shorthorns, Polled Angus, Herefords, orDevons. In the gentlemen's leaping match a water jump will be included in the obstacles to be negotiated. The ladies' match will take place at 3 p.m. on the second day of the show, and will be over three fences 3ft. Cin. high. This competition is creating a large amount of interest, and will, undoubtedly, prove one of the principal features of the show.
The remains of the late Mrs Gordon, of Woodlands, who succumbed to blood poisoning on Tuesday last, were interred in the Hamilton West Cemetery yesterday afternoon. The funeral cortege left her late residence at one o'clock, and by the time it reached Hamilton a very large number of friends had joined in the procession. Between thirty and forty vehicles and an equally large number of horsemen made it one of the largest funerals that has ever passed through Hamilton. Friends from all parts of the district were in attendance, evincing the high e3tiinaticn in which the deceased lady was hold, and betokening the sincerest sympathy for the bereaved husband in the heavy affliction that has befallen him.
