(by tklhguaph.—own CORItESPONDKXT) Auckland, LastXigh. Ah Chkh, a Chinese merchant, was committed for trial to-day far receiving stolen good.-. The Te Anau arrived from Sydney today. Among her passengers were Major (iQorge, t".'in well-known sportsman, and Mr J5. Cutts, also an old racing man, who, have brought over from Sydney the horses Impulse and Workman. Heavy rain showers fell last night and to-day.' Shortly after K o'clock this morning two vivid lightning Hashes occurred, accompanied by sharp thunder over head. Although they occasioned no damage of a serious nature, one or two accidents took place. A chimney belonging to the King's Arn.s Hotel, Newton, was struck by lighting with tli-e result that the top was knocked oIF. No other damage was done nor was anyone hurt.
