A I'iiiu broke out on board the ship Auckmountaiii, which was loading at Greenock for a New Zealand port, and before the flumes cculd bo extinguished the vessel was almost completely destroyed. Twenty tons of powder, whioh were stowed in the magazine, exploded, and windows for miles around were broken. Fortunately the captain nnd crew escaped to the Clyde guardroom before the explosion occurred. Perth (W.A.), September 4. 111-luck still hangs to the barque Laira, which left Diuiedin for Frecniautle on April 10th, and experienced a severe gale on tho 2ord and 54th of the same month, in which she sustained considerable damage, necessitating her putting into Hobart for repairs. After leaving- Hobart she met with fair weather, and arrived here; but yesterday her commander (Captain Hughes) was killed by a load of timber crushing him.
