TE AWAMUT.

A Resident Clergyman.—A very enthusiastic meeting was held in St. John's Church last Saturday night, the object being to devise ways and means for securing the services of a resident clergyman for the district. There was a large attendance of the local church people including several ladies. The out districts of Faterangi, Alexandra, Kihikihi, and Rangiaohia, each sent representatives. Mr John Hutehinson was voter 2 to the chair.—Mr Gresham pointed out to the meeting that to secure the services of the Rev. Mr Maynnrd, who had been holding services in their churches lately and whom they all seemed to like, the sum of £200 must be raised annually, This amount seemed in the opinion of most people to be well within their power, aud it was shown that £165 annually had been promised already. After thoroughly discussing the question, it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Te Awamutu vestry, with power to carry out all arrangements about securing a clergyman should they be able to raise the necessary £200.— A vote of thanks to the vestry and the chairman terminated the meeting.
