RAGLAN.

S.s. Glenelg (Captain Austin).—This steamer has now taken up her running on this coast again, after receiving a thorough overhauling during her stay in Auckland. She has made several trips here of late from Onehunga and Wanganui, and has brought large quantities of cargo from the former place (if a general description, along with considerable quantities of timber for building purposes. One of her consignments on her trip on Saturday lust caused some little comment —viz., a number of puriri house blocks. It seemed like verifying the old saying, "Carting coal to Newcastle," whilst so much puriri still remains available in the district for all purposee that are required. Ball. —The bachelors of the Te Akau Estate contemplate givine a grand ball and entertainment in Raglan on Friday, the 23rd September. CONTRACTS.—There are several contracts for necessary public works now being called for by the Raglan County Council upon the Raglan-Waipa Road, such as repairs to culverts and bridges, &c. In Raglan the footpath and road contracts were much needed, as the roads and footpaths have never been in a worse state, in consequence, no doubt, of the increased traffic upon them. The contract for supplying and putting into place ballast at the end of the wharf, to counteract the scour which is said to have been taking place, is also an important matter, it having been reported to the Raglan County Council at its last meeting that the piles were getting loose. Mr Galvan's contracc for fixing the derrick and ladder on the wharf has been completed.

County Clerk.—Mr Conradi, the new county clerk, arrived in Raglan last week. He proceeds to Auckland shortly for the purpose of receiving the books of the Council from the Government auditor.

Natives. —During the last week numbers of natives have been seen about the township, as is usually the case after the annual rent is paid by the Te Akau Estate.
