RAGLAN.

Accidents.— On Friday afternoon whilst on his way to Raglan, and not far from Mr Henry's house Raglan-Waipa road, a young man named Alfred Raistrick, son of Mr Raistrick of Rangatahi, near Raglan, was thrown from his horse and coming down with great force his leg was broken. Dr. Ray was soon in attendance and the broken limb set. He has since been conveyed to his father'* residence and is, I am glad to say, progressing favourably. Another accident occurred on Monday morning last (15th inst.), to A. L. Pegler. son of Mr J. N. Pegler, Karioi, Raglan, whilst on hia way to Mr McJannet's place at the Gorge; the horse upon which he was riding takiug a sudden jump at the foot of a steep hill caused the saddle to slip round thus throwing him totheground with great force. Mr Caterer, a neighbour residing near, brought the information into his parents, and Messrs Savage and Caterer, with Mr Pegli'r and his two sons weut ut to the spot when they found the unfortunate young man unable to move, Mr McJannet being with him. A stretcher having heen prepared he was with great difficulty got home as ihe road is very steep in places. Fortunately, Messrs Gilmour and McMillan also arrived and helped to bring him in, and all very kindly rendered every assistance they could. It was fortunate that Mr Caterer was passing that morning as the injured young man had been lying nearly two hours on the road when he passed. Dr. B*y was soon in attendance, and after examination found the back had been injured, a alight curvature of the spine having taken place. For several days he continued in great pain, but is a little easier now. Fancy Dress Bull.—The fancy dress ball given by the bachelors of Raglan district, came off on Friday last at Sutton's Hall, Raglan, a large number being present, and in varied costumes too numerous to particularise. All seemed to enjoy themselves. The refreshments were all that could be desired, and were supplied by Mr Barlow, of the Royal HoteL
