Calder, it wan carried that Mr W. Conradi be appointed to the position of clerk and wharfinger at a salary of £70 4n per annum, upon the proof of his testimonials being satisfactory to the Council. —When in committee, the Council also discussed matters connected with the late clerk, and it was resolved, on the motion of Cγ. Brooks, seconded by Or. Hill, that the action of the Chairman in the matter is satisfactory to tho Council. AWAitOA Block.—The Survey Department, in answer to an application asking the Government to oxpend on roads to Block VI. and part Block X., Awaroa surrey district, an amount equal to the kiiiu it has been loaded with .for roads, said that thri block has had no money borrowed on it at all at present, and the portion nlready disposed of has not been loaded for roading purposes. Waipa-Raolan Road.—A raply was received from tho Survey Office, stating that when tlia certificate was received that the work had been completed on the WaipaRiiglan road, the remaining £74 would be

Bbcck's Obstruction. —The Land and Survey Department, Auckland, in connection with the obstruction placed upon the Waipa-Rafjlari road by Mr Bruce, said that the land in every other case had been taken by the Crown-in exercise of road rights reserved in the grants. They had hoard that other persons were stopping the road, and it was the duty of the Council to see that the road was not obstructed. The £40 compensation tns been paid Mr Bruce, Native Lands.—The Turanaki County Council forwardod a resolution passed by them, asking the Raglan County Council to urge that native lands be brought under the Rating Act, especially those that are individualised. —It was agreed to confirm the resolution. Litxlb's Road.— Mr George Little againwaited on the Council with respect to the

approach to hid place. The Waipa River separatee his farm in the Raglan County from the Wai pa County, and as the surveyed roa'l on the Waipa County side is not pegged off, he is unable to find tho mad to give him access to the main road to Ngaruawahia. He has been rnfusad by the natives who occupy land in the Newcastle Road Board district to cross their lands to get to the main road. He asked the Conncil to use their endeavours to get the surveyed road already in existence defined so ;that he could travel upon it, as at present he is shutout from going to Ngaruawahia.—The Newcastle Road Board is to be written to upon the subject* Smalt, Bikds.—A copy of the Small Birds Nuisance Act was received, urging simultaneous action with other local bodies upon the nuisance. School Footpath.—An application was received from the Raglan School Committee, asking that the footpath leading to the school be put into good order.—Received. =. "■ HosPirAL DuifAND.—A demand was received from the Waikato Hospital Board for £112 lie 9d, being the amount due on May Ist, 1892, by the Conncil as a contribution.—Referred to the Finance Committee. ,DkbbNTDßEß.—The Treasury wrote asking that immediate steps be taken to retire the £33' debentures due on the Ist May, 1891 and 1892, as they have been reported by the' Bank of New Zealand as having been dishonoured. Wainoauo Mangapiko Boai>.—lt was resolved to expend a sum of £35 on the above road, such money to be voted out of

general ridings account. Spring Road.—Mr Joseph Foster wrote saying he would give £10 if the Council would give a like amount in getting him a road to his farm from off the Springs Road. —This work will be done when the Council has sufficient funds. Roads Wanted.—Mγ W. A. Murray •gain applied to the Council for compensation for necessary work he had done in his district. He also pointed out a lot of work that wanted doing.—lt was resolved to urge tho Government to survev and define the roads from Opotia to Tuakau and Mercer.— The work asked for by Mr Murray will be considered when the Council is in funds.

Removing a Shkd.— Mγ Rendell is to be informed that Mr Phillips cannot take down the shed on the old wharf without; the permission of the Council. Guarantee. — The Waitetuna Road -Board wrote enclosing the following resolution : "That on the receipt of £33 los, as per Board's demand on the Raglan County Council of April 28th, 1892, for interest due on loans, with a guarantee of -prompt- payments in future from the wharf revenues by the Raglan County Council, the Waitetuna Road Board guarantees the payment to the Rjglan County Council of tho sum of £3 6s tid per annum an a moiety to meet the sum of £G 19s demanded per annum by tho Treasury tor interest on the proposed £242 loan to meet the extra debt for wharf erection."—The letter was received.

Wharf.—ln accordance with the notico of motion given, Cγ. Brooks moved that: The resolution passed at the meeting of 27th arid 28th May la,st re whartinger's duties be rescinded, and in lieu thereof that the wharfinger b>? instructed on no account to sign for Roods received from the ships or settlers, produce either for export or import. —This w«s carried.—Or. Brooks also proposed, and~Cr. Hill seconded, that; the store be leased-by tender as'per conditions contained in, Order-in-Council, arid that storage of imports be charged only after 12 houra ffee storage for residents in the township, and after seven days free storage for country settlers at present rates. Conditions of lea-io to be drawn out by .whurf committee and .advertised in township.— This was carried unanimously. Notiok ov Motiov. -Cγ. Hill had a notice of motion standing in hib name: To stop the slndges running on the public roads during the winter months, but withdrew it. Native Hostelry.—The Land and aurvey Department wrote saying a title cuuld not be issued for section 11, Riglan, until the Court-honse site and the native hostelry site is excluded.—lt was resolved to rescind that part of the resolution passed on August 11th, 1891, as far as regards the rentals demanded by the Council for the native hostelry and Court-house, and that instead the Government pay Is per annum on each section as an acknowledemont of the Council's possession. , Subsidy.—A subsidy of £5 will be paid Mr C. P. Vining towards the making of the main road to his farm.

Tk Akac Whaiu'.—The following was proposed with reference to the proposed wharf to be built on the Raglan estate :— Proposed by Cr. Cogwell, and seconded by Cr. Hill, that the Council cannot recommend the erection of a wharf at present, but would aek that the site bo vested in the Council, and that their jurisdiction be recognised on both sides of the harbour as fas as Motukaraka Point as previously requested, in which case the Council will be prepared to grant the Raglan Estate Company the right to loud and unload all their goods and stock free of all wharf charges in consideration of their erecting the said wharf, but the Council would reserve the right to purchase the said wharf at a reasonable valuation at any time, and the Council now claim jurisdiction under Section 242, and following sections of Counties Act, 18SG, as per Order-in-Conncil duly gazetted.—Cr. Muthias proposed as an amendment, that seeing that the Murine Department have refused for two years to give jurisdiction to the Council over the Raglan harbour, they have no right to ask the Council to pasa an opinion on the subject. Cr. Mathias then loft the room.— The motion was carried, Cr. Whiteside only voting against it. Harbour Boards.—The Clerk was instructed to write to the various Harbour Boards, requesting information as to limits of jurisdiction. Johnston was granted a slaughtering license subjact to the necessary advertising being done. Tenoeus. —Cr. Cogswell reported that he had received one tenilor for £38 18s from C. Johnston for work on the Kaglan-Waipa road.—The Council considered this price was too high, and fresh tend -iris are tn be called. Rki'AlUS.—Cγ. Caldor said tho road approaching the Karaitm school was in very bad repair, and, also the road loading to Mr Noble's. The Council will attend to the works when they have funda. He was instructed to get either Messrs Armstrong or Sewe!l to report upon the Kaniwhaniwha road,and the Chairman was instructed to sanction reasonable expenditure. Tk Mata.—Cγ. Hill's action in lettinjs the work of deviating part of this road to Loane and Vernon for £6 10s was confirmed. Lkvkls.—lt was resolved that Messrs Frissell and Sewell bo instructed to continue the street levels in front of Messrs Moon's and Gilmoiir's, as per specifications drawn out ! : by thorn, the peg near Mr Moon's to be the data on which such levels are to be fixed. TiMBRil-FLOATINO.— It was resolved that the clerk; write to the Survey Office, requesting that immediate attention be given to tho acquisition of security against damage to the Whatawhata and Kaniwhaniwha Bridges by the floating of logs down the Waipa River to Maunder's mill at Whatawhata, which is already at work. VAtUATION Roix.—The Commissioner of Tuxes is to be written to, asking that the valuation roll be sent at once, as the Council is unable to get the ratoa in until it has been received. ! Placb of Mketino. —Tho next meeting will be held in Raglan. Hahboub Bo.uid. — The Ohinemuri Couuty Council wrote asking the co-oper-ation of the Council in trying to get tin Counties Act amended so that conuties having navigable rivers within their boundaries, but outside of the jurisdiction of a Harbour Board, should have the power to levy dues on shipping trading to their gazetted wharves.—The Council were of the opinion that the acquisition of the power propoae'l wonld be greatly in the interest of local governing bodies and of settlement in general. Fcnds. —Accounts amounting to £125 were passed for payment.—The overdraft at the bank ou the general account is £294 13s Bd, and the thirds account is £117 8s 7d in credit. ■
