TRAIN DERAILED
The train from Te Awamutu, yesterday morning, ran into a bullock, in the Kukuhia swamp, about a mile and a half above the Frankton station, throwing the engine and tender off the rail. The first intimation of the accident was brought to the station master at Frankton, by the guard of the disabled train. The engine o£ the goods train that is timed to leave Frankton after the passenger train, v;as in a few minutes despatched with rails and the material necessary for lifting the engine on to the line, and to convey the passengers and mails to the Auckland train that was waiting at Frankton ; by this means but little delay was occasioned. From what we could learn the bullock attempted to cross the line but waa caught ty the cow catcher and iustead of being thrown to one side clear of the wheels, the body got completely under the forepart of the engine, throwing it off the rails, and before the train could be pulled up the body was torn completely in half. Inspector Penn had his men soon to work and the line was clear by about two o'clock.
