WAIKATO HUNT CLUB,

Thb usual weekly meet of Mr H, BullockWebster's hounds took place at Hautapu on Saturday, the rendezvous being Pickering's corner, near the old school-house. There was a large muster of horsemen present, and a number of ladies also graced the occasion, tempted out, no doubt by the glorious weather which prevailed. Several ladies and geutlemen were also present in buggies, &c. Among the ladies we noticed Miss Storey, on Wairiri; Mies Main, on Nelson ; Miss A. Sandes, on a bay ; Miss K. Selby, on a grey; and Mish Hume, on a brown. Prominent among the gentlemen were the master (Mr H. Bullock-Webster), on Ledbury; Messrs M. H. Pickering, on Pawa; N. I. Hunt, ou a chestnut; A. Bach, on an Ariel; Gane, on a bay; t. Gane, on a brown; E. boater, on Pirate; Fletcher on Nancy; W.Windsor on a- bay ; Solby on a brown ; C. Weal on Onslow; H. Weal on Sylva; P. Emerson ou Deceiver; Wyatt on a bay ; Latham on a chestnut; Cassidy on a bruwn ;0. Shaw, on Waverly; and othere- Tho hounds threw off in a ploughed paddock belonging to Mr Douglas in front of Mr Pickenn s s house, aud proceeded towards the gully where a hare was soon picked up, which made across a paddock in the direction ot the main road, and puss crossing into Mr i Dyko's, led the party a merry run over some nicely trimmed live fences and stirf i post-and-rails ; but proving too swift for her pursuers, she was lost in a eully. bevm-ai paddocks belonging to Mr Pickering were then tried, and another hare was found in the gully at the back of the house, but after a short run mau'aged to escape. A movfi was then made back to where the first hare was started, and another was soon on font, which, after several runs across tho paddock, would persist in making back to the gully, where a large number of hares were running about in all directions, appearing to be very plentiful in this part of the district, and spoiling the scent to a great extent. One, however, proved m-jre game than the rest, and making across the paddock towards the road, again took the hounds into Mr Dyke's paddocks, and beaded towards Broad meadows, when, oiving to a large barbed-wire fence obstructing any further progress in that direction, puss had to be abandoned. Thus what promised to be a good run was spoilt, and no kill was again the result. The party then proceeded across the gully at the back of Mr Douglas' house, through several paddocks belonging to that gentleman, where another find was made, but tho dogs getting into the ti-treo, had to linish the the hunt alone. As the day was drawing to a close, it was thought advisable to call the dogs off, and a move was made for home. Although there was not the satisfaction of a kill during the day, everyone returned well pleased with their outing. There were several spills during tho afternoon, but none of a very serious nature. The jumping throughout was first-class, showing a preat improvement on former years. Among our W.aikato horsemen it is now no unusual thing to see twenty-five or thirty at once going as straight as could be wished for. If the gentleman who visited this district some years ago and hunted with the Pakuranga hounds when they were in Waikato, and expected to see our huntsmen mounted on mustangs, his expectations would be realised in this respect if he should pay us another visit, as there are some ponies going to the hunt at present very little over fourteen hands high, and carrying big weights over the biggest of fences in a very businesslike manner, and at times are able to put their larger rivals to the blush.

The next meet will be at the factory corner, Hamilton East, on Thursday, at noon. A mooting of members to discuss matters in connection with the annual race meeting will be held at Ohaupo, at half-past one on Tuesday next. All members are requested to pay lip their subscriptions at once.
