ENGLISH ELECTIONS.
(by electric telegraph.— copyright). London, July 8. Mil Cahpeix, Notionalist, has been elected for the Borough of Newry. Mr Beati, Home Euler, defeated tho llight Hen. C. T. Eitchie, President of tho Local Government Board, and member of the Cabinet, at Tower Hamlet, by a majority of Jl9B. Lord A. W. Hill, Conservative, has been re-elected for West Downshire unopposed. Sir E. Hanson and Mr H. H. Gibbs were re-elected for the City of London. Messrs H. L. Mulholland and T. B. Bolitho were re-elected unopposed for North Londonderry. Mr Hood, Tory, has been elected for Wellington. Mr Miltford, a Tory, has been elected for Stratford. Mr Field, a Parnellite, beat Mr Murphy, Parnellite, for St. Patrick's, Dublin, by a majority of 2,500. Dr. Kenny, a Parnellite, beat Mr T. D. Sullivan, Parnellite, for College Green, Dublin. The Nationalists gain East Wicklow, wk ere Mr Sweetman was elected. Mr Fox, Nationalist, was re-elecied for Tullamore, unopposed. Mr Dynot, Parnollitc candidate from the colony of Victoria, was rejected for Gal way. Mr Eoss, a Tory, beat Mr Justin McCarthy for Londonderry. Tho returns tD date give the Conservatives 141 ; Unionists, 19; Home Eulers, 117 ; Nationalists, 11. The net result, so far, is that the Liberals have gained 21 seats. Mr Gladstone has issued a circular, to the effect tlwt the Liberals are losing seats to tho Tories, owing to the intrusion of bogus labour candidates. Tho Eight Hon. John Morlcy, who was elected as junior member for Newcastle-on-Tyne, having declared from the hustings that unless he was returned by 2000 majority he would resign, is now asked by his opponents to fulfil his pledge. The Dublin Unionists are rejoicing at the results of the elections, and Irish bank stocks, which fell on the publication of Mr Gladstone's manifesto, have risen £4. Mr Justin McCarthy was beaten by 260. Ben Tillett, who was defeated recently, will contest Pudsey. The Pall Mall Gazette attributes Mr Morley'e position to the activity of the labourers. July 10. Mr James McAlrnont, member for Antrim East, has been re-elected un* opposed. The former members have been reelected for Crewe and St. Andrews. Mr Byrne, a Tory, has been elected for Waltbamstow. The Liberals have elected the following members :—Eoss and Cromarty (Weir), Tyneside (J. A. Pease), Flint Burghs (Lewis), Swansea Town (B urnie), Carmarthenshire (Jones), Armagh South (McHegh), a Nationalist. In the elections the total Liberal gains are 50. The Government gain 20. Mr P. McDermott has been reelected for Kilkenny North. The returns at present are : — Tories lfll Unionists 24 Gliidstoniana 103 Nationalists ... 24 Parnelliteg 4
