THE J. B. WHYTE EPISODE.
TO THK EDITOR. Sir,—" Waikato Elector," in Thursday's Waikato Times, says that the electors of Waikato who were supporters of Mr Russell felt that they were not represented by Mr Wtiyte, and that Mr Russell would have represented the electors. If " Waikato Elector " thinks that we, who supported Mr Whyte, feel small, he is under a great delusion. O, heavens ! how small I would feel if I had supported Mr Russell. Does " Waikato Elector " mean us to believe that protection and a member who supported protection would represent Waikato ? The election whs contested on the question of free trade or protection, nud in face of that, "Waikato Elector" would have had us to support Mr Russell. If the same contest was again to be fought, I would, do as I did—l would once more support the free trade candidate. " Waikato Elector " supported the cut-throat policy of protection, aad in his silly political mind takes credit to himsoir and blames us who .ire free traders. That " Waikato Elector " should do so shows that the extension of the frauohise qaine too soon, for he and every protectionist are politically unfit to have a vote.— Yours truly, Hakafkpe.
