WELLINGTON NEWS.
(by. telegraph—press association). Wellington, Last Night. The Postmaster-General states that the actual saving us between the cost of purchasing and fitting up the Terranora and the probabie cost of using one of the EastermflSxtension Company'* steamers hae been between £0000 and £7,000, while the cable has been righted in, at least, 20 daya less than the very shortest time that would have bpen possible undor the old system. There ia of couree the further advantage that the colony now has its own repairing steamer on the spot to make good any future breakages. An accident happened on beard the Terranorn, yesterday afternoon while running out the new cable in Lyells Bay. The cable jumped out of the iiause pipe and jammed Capt. Lees, Capt. Gray (pilot) and a seaman named Moore, uguinst the bulwarks. The latter was injured about the body, and had to be removed to the Hospital, but tho others were not hurt seriously. The Terranora returns to the Struts this afternoon, and no difficulty is expected in picking up the remaining singlecore cable which is broken 19 miles from this end. The amended regulations for the examinations under the Dentist." Act are gazetted. A despatch from the Secretary of State respecting the exchange of light gold cuins appears in the gazette.
