LAND SETTLEMENT.
(l)Y telegraph.—own correspondent) Auckland, Last Night. A deputation waited on tho Hon. R. Seddon to-day, including Mr W. A. Murray, Major Lusk, Captain Worsp, Major Harris, and others. They asked that the Government should purchase from the native owners the Oouatia Block, situated across the Waikato River from Tuakau, in the Onewhero district. The block comprises 45,000 acres, and it was stated that it would maintain some 300 settlers, the country being good limestone and very suitable for settlement. It was also pointed out that tho Opuatia Block is not very far from the very large and successful settlement known as the Onewhero Settlement. The land was now under offer to the Government, and a hope was expressed that they would complete the purchase at an early date. The Minister promised to bring the matter under the notice of Sir Cadman, in whose department it came.
