EXPORT OF APPLES.

UNSATISFACTORY RESULTS. (by TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT). Auckland, Last Night. Thk account sales of the various shipments of apples to England per Duke of the Buckingharn have burn received by the Auckland growers and are anything but satisfactory reading. One shipment of twentyeight cases realised 12s Gd for the lot, leaving a loss of 3s 8d on the auction charges exclusive of freight. The apples were not well treated on board ship and were rotten. A consignee writing from London under date, April 22, to an Auckland shipper says:—" Mr Reynolds had 200 cases by tho saino ship and of these, after being sorted, about tSO cases were turned out. Mr White tells me that a lot just arrived by the Tainui have turned out well. lie says that apples to arrive in good condition should have a chamber to themselves and that the Tasmanian come in sufficient quantities to get this. One reason for their arrival in a better state, ha also says is that more care is pxere, ised in Tasmania with respect to destroying fruit having moth or disease. Mr White thinks your 31 cases must have been frozen and afterwards partly cooked, the temperature not being kept uniform at about 40deg." Some shippers intenl to petition tho Shipping Company for a refund of the freight charges.
