The leading eveuts of the Grand National Meeting, to b« held at Ellerslie, continue ti absorb a, Rood deal of attention. Almost every horse with any chance in the Hurdle Race has been supported, with Gour.mto for the Steeplechase, and the price on the field is 100 to (5. Little straight out wagering ha*, so far, taken place on the Hurdle Race, but if any better price than 5 to 1 on the field were quoted, there is reason to believe that business would result.
The following prices are quoted on the Hurdle Knee :—5 to 1 against Lonely, Belmont, and Fabulous ; ti to 1 Couranto and and To para ; 8 to 1 Salute and Never Miss; 20 to 1 the others. While contesting in tho Trial Steeplechase at Wanganui, Glenelg collided with Somnambulist, and both fell. The latter escaped without injury, but Grlenelg hurt one of his shoulders badly, and as Mr .Scott took him back home by train, it is understood he will not bo brought up to Auckland to fulfil his engagements.
