NATIVE LANDS.

MR CADMAN AND THE NATIVES. (by telegraph.—press association). Wellington, Last Night. Mr Cadman, in an interview witii the natives at Kihikihi. replying to requests that he should stop huying native lands, said they might as well ask him to stop the river from flowing. The Government were being pressed on all sides to buy native lands, and he had purchased a hundred thousand acres during the year, and could have purchased double that amount if money had been available. The Government only wanted to push on settlement, and were indifferent whether Europeans or natives cultivated. He asked whether the natives would cultivate even one per cent of their reserves ; also whether they were prepared to pay rates as Europeans did. The meeting was of a satisfactory character.
