AN EXPLANATION.
TO THE HDITOH. Sib,—ln your issue of the sth inst., in the report of the annual meeting of ratepayers of the Newcastle road district, your correspondent quotes from a letter of mine, which was read by the chairman of the meeting. Ho states : " And also that he had not forwarded the cash book, owing to its not being made up." What I did state was that I did send the cash book, as the matter which the meeting of ratepayers had to deal with was'the year's accounts up to the 31st March last, and which was all contained in the ledger, both the balance-sheet and the particulars of each account therein. Consequently, I did n"t think the cash book was required. I would therefore request you to kindly insert this so as to show tho matter in its true light to the public, as the misrepresentation is evidently wilful. How a balance-sheet could have been made out without making up the ca>h book is a mystery to me, which 1 must leave to your correspondent to solve.— Yours truly, William Jones, Clerk Newcastle Road RoorJ.
