CATTLE BY LIVE WEIGHT.
An interesting " block test " and demonstration of tha value of the weigh-bridgo in the buying and selling of stock was recently tfiveu, under the auspices of the Strathbngie Farmers Club, by Mr M'Jannet, of Over Inzievar, Stirling. There was a very large attendance of farmers and others, the usua soring show of cattle, seeds, &«., being held in the town that day. A rough, hard y finished, three-year-old Canadian bullock, belonging to Mr George Ferguson, farmer, Lissendrum, was made the subject of fifty guesses by farmers, who paid Gd for a sweepstake ticket. Thirty-one of the dead weight guesses were under G cwt while nineteen guesses were (i cwt. and upwards. The lowest was 5 cwt. 1 qr., and the highest, 0 cwt 1 qr. 7 lbs,, showing a difference of 1 cwt 0 qrs. 7 lbs., equal to G4s to GSs on the animal As it turned out, the majority were belo.v tho true weight, the animal turning the scales at 11 cwt. live weight and 0 cwt 0 qrs. 21 lbs. dead. Tho nearest guess was 0 cwt. 0 qrs. 20 lb., by Mr James S Sharp, Burryhillock, Premnay. lho bullock was weighed on a weighbridge supplied by Mr MJannet. At. tho Club dinner, which was largely attended, the health of Mr SI Jannet, and prosperity to the system of silling on a basis of weight, was drunk Willi grciit enthusiasm
