ST. ANDREW'S, CAMBRIDGE.
Matters in connection with St. Andrew's Church, Cambridge, are decidedly looking up ; the average attendance of the congregation is increasing, the finances are on a bettpr footing than they hive been for a considerable time, and everything connected with the Church bears quite a roseata hue when compared with thn past few years. Last Sunday being Eister Day, thera was full chor.il service both morning and evening, and everything passed off in a must satisfactory manner. The congregations and offertories were the largest there have been, on Easter Sundays, for a period of nine years—i.e., since 1883. The choir stalls were quite full, and the church was decorated in a most cha«te manner with white chrysanthemums, nikau palm*, tree fern?, selaginellas, etc. The alter, rjredos, font, lectern and pulpit were quite works of art, and reflect the greatest credit upon the ladies who decked them so prettily. For the first time the choir was strengthened by the addition of a number of boys' voices. This is due to the energy displayed by Mrs Ross Watts, who has been training the Inds for some time, and on Simdav sixteen of them made their debnt. We must congratulate Mrs Watts and the boys upon the manner in which the latter acquitted themselves, for they proved a great help. While the offertory in the morning was being taken ua Mr BurnMurdoch i-liiyo.rl an " Ave Maria" on his Bute, accompanied by the harmonium. It was greatly appreciated, and many of the congregation expressed regret that he did not play a flute solo at the evening service. The Archdeacon preached both morning and evening, both sermons referring to the glad tidings that Eastertide brings to mind. At the evening service Mr S. Seddon read the lessone. Perhape we have been rather hasty in saying that everything in connection with the church prospers, for the guild certainly doea not 1 Why is this ?
