THE LABOUR BUREAU.
TO THK EDITOR.
Sib, —Much stresi has been laid upon the benefits which are ti> be derived from the establishment of the Government Labour Bureau ; but, judging by the following resolution lately passed bv the New South Wales Trade and Labour Council, its value may have been somewhat over-rated ' — While this Council recognises the usefulness of the Government Labour Bureau in so far as men have the privilege to go without work, we regret its failure to throw any additional light on the great problem how to find it. For this reason the Council is of opinion that the Government should hold out inducements in the shape of assistance for men to settle on the waste lands of the colony as State tenants under an agreement which wou'd insure the State a fair return. That a committee of three be appointed, with power to consult any person likely to assist them in preparing a scheme to be placed before the Government as earlv as possible.—Yours, &c., Jonathan. Ohaupo, April 14th, ISO 2,
