CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. At the R.M. Court, this morning, a man was fined £n and ousts £1 IG< for shooting grey duck the day previous to the opening of the season. Mr W. B. Ivey. director of the Lincoln Agricultural College, died suddenly this morning, it 9 a.m., from apoplexy. A doctor was sent for, but on his arrival life was extinct. Mr Ivey had boon in bad health for some time past, and had recently been absent on leave. He was a distinguished graduate of Cirencaster Agricultural College, England.

A deputation of influential citizens headed by Mr Irving, County Chairman, waited on Mr R. Reeves, M.H.R., with reference to the application made by the Midland Railway Company for an extension of tim 3 to complete their contract. The deputation asked Mr Reeves to use his best influence to get the Cnnpany's request granted subject to the condition that the land be thrown open for settlors as wide spread dissatisfaction at present existed, owing to the inability of intending settlers to acquire land : also that the work of making the railway be vigorously proseooted. Mr Reeves pronounced to assist in the desired direction.
