The steamer, Duke of Sutherland, has taken 4000 carcases of mutton from the local freezing works. At two o'clock this morning a fire occurred in Cameron-street, Whangare.i, which resulted in the complete destmctiou of a shop occupied by James Laurie, bootmaker, nothing being saved. The stock was insured in the Union Marino Company Office for £75, but there was no insurance on the building of which Mr Reid, carpenter nf Whangarei, was the owner.
The Maritoto Mine and plant was sold by auction at the Thames to-day, and purchased by Mr Judd for £70.
