MR N. T. MAUNDER, WAIPA COUNTY CLERK.
CovsiPKIUDLB surprise was ca/md ,-,t the. meeting of the Wuipn Cnunty Council on Tuesday lust, when Mr Ma'ind.r, L-lerk to tho Council, tendered his re.-igiation of tho virions oliico.i held by him under t'ne Council, and much regret was expressed by the members at the prospect of losing his services. Mr Ma'iiicl.-r ha.s fulfilled tins duties of cleik, &c, to tin Council for just 13 .years, having b;eu appointed in April, 1879, and he ha.s alsn acted as clerk tn various mad b"ards and other local bodies throughout His county during that period. As a public officer, Mr Maunder has given tho greatest satisfaction to the various authorities with whom he ha.s come in contact, and although— like any mortal in the ordinary discharge of his duties—ho was bound tn make soino eo':niius, we can safely sav, in Mr Mamidcr'.s case, tint these are. very few. Mis term of nllice has been marked by various changes in the county, foremost amongst these being thu wiping off of the nv. rdraft which burdened the county for ao long, Mr Maunder intends tn settle in the Tarannki province, where t)6 has a property, and where many of his relations reside. These latter have for .some time past been endeavouring tn induce Mr Maunder tn come and live near them, and it is to do this that Mr Maunder has resigned his present appointments. The whole of the councillors present at the meeting—the chairman and tlia older momoers especially—expressed their sincere regret at Mr Maunders decision, as theyfully recognised the loss the conntv will sustain, for no tna'ter how competent a successor may be appointed, it will be some years before he has mastered the working of the Council a< thoroughly as Mr Maunder has done. We would take this opportunity of thanking Mr Maunder f'U the courteous manner in which he has always treated onr representatives nt tho meetings of the local bodies with which he had to do, and wish him and his family every happioeas and success in his new location.
