WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL .

Bnginkku's Rkport.—ln his monthly report the engineer stated that since last meeting, a number of contracts in various parts of the county have been completed. A box culvert has been replaced with pipes on the Alexandra-To Awamutu road. Since the roadway.at the Cambridge bridge had been washed away (reported in a previous isaue), rdpairs have been carried out in such a> way as will i ravent a re-ccurrence of this kind in future. The engineer accepted a tender of R. Wayte, for £3 Gs, for replacing the Baerescourt bridge with pipes as authorised at the last meeting. He alao accepted the tender of T. Jones, for forming a few chains at Frunkton : it 4s per chain. He reported at some length as to the means of access to the Various lakes near Ohaupo for the purpose of watering stock, and concluded as follows: —"I am afraid but few people would take tho trouble and risk to drive their cattle so much out of the way and in a short time they would cease tn be used, a considerable expenditure thus being incurred for nothing. After considering the whole question I do not consider it practicable." With reference to the road line between Messrs Orfesjn's and Melville's farms in the outlying district, he stated he had inspected the place. The road is about one mile in length, and for about half the length is covered with heavy gorse, the remaining portion being comparatively clear. It should be grubbed, and ploughed up to the full width between the fences, it would not be necessary to form it. There is a bad gully to cross, the banks of which are very steep and would necessitate grading aa well as asmaH.bridge, not having taken the levels he could only give the probable cost of this latter work, but he did not think it could be done for less than £G0 or £70. T Cr. Smith moved that no steps be taken in opening the road to the lakes near Ohaupo for watering cattle.—Seconded by Cr. Shepherd and carried.—lt was decided not to take any steps as to tho road between Messrs Melville'.s ami Offeson's farms, the cost being too groat.-—Cr, Teasdale moved that the engineer supply an estimate as to the probable cost of supplying water to Ohaupo by means of a rain.—Seconded by Cr.
