LABOUR COUPONS.

The following circular has been issued from the Bureau of Industries in Wellington, and so far as the Waikato district is concerned the police are acting as agents in the matter. The circular is signed by Edward Tregear, Secretary for Industries, and reads as follows :— It is desired that the Bureau should issue Coupons (somewhat similar to those used by Cook's tourists) for the benefit of workmen travelling in search of employment. The Coupons will be issued to you and other Agents, and you are requested to issue them (in quantities not exceeding 12 Coupons at one time) to applicants of whose burnt fides as travellers in search of work you havß made sure by enquiry, etc. On a man obtaining employment these Coupons will ba no longer available. Will you kindly make enquiries from keepers of hotels and acsommodationhouses in your district whether they will agree to give holders of these Coupons food and shelter at the following rates, viz., sixpence each for breakfast, dinner, tea, and bed. As this would amount to a sum equal to 14s a week (besides, probably, some small outlay by each individual) doubtless arrangements can be made at some, if not all, hotels and boarding-hiuses in your district. No Coupon is to bo issued without your signature ; ami it is to be understood that the blank unsigned Coupon is not to be honoured. The name of recipient is to be written on back of Coupon, and each Coupon is to be destroyed by the hotel-keeper after it has been used.
