TE RORE.

The Chops.—Thrashing operations have just been completed throughout the district, and generally speaking the yields were satisfactory, more so where the crops were not affected by caterpillars, but un-fori-unataly those were few. The following area few of the yields :—K Robinson, oats, f>3 bushels per acre; Z. Hodgson, wheat, 30; na's affected by caterpillars, 1G; J. Higginson, oats, 35: D. Munro, wheat, 23 ; oats, 26 ; J. Melville, oats, 23, wheat, 2(5; E. Offerson, wheat, 20; oats affected by caterpillars, 20. Several other crops which were also affected by caterpillars averaged about the same. Mr Hutchinson's steam thrasher did the work this season, and is now busy thrashing in the Tuhikanmea district.

Oiichakd Robbing.—The amusing pastime of orchard robbing is not by any means confined to larger districts or towns, for we hear of Mr Lang's orchard at TuhikaiMintw, as well as sevewl in this district having been visited several times by those individuals who have only a vague idea of the lawa of memn and tuum. Ono would think that fruit is cheap enough withont stealing it, but on the principle I suppose that stolen waters are sweet, they prefer being guilty of the crime of theft to asking openly fur what they desire. I sincerely hope some clue will be got as to whom the thieves are, in order that we may have the pleasure of seeing them appear before Captain Jackson, R.M., for it is too bad that people cannst enjoy the fruit of their labour and expense in making an orchard without having their fruit stolen.
