HE ANARCHIST OUTBREAK IN SPAIN.
As Anarchist attempt to sack the town of Xeres Wi!3 reported on January 9. Acording to (he Madrid correspondent of the Standard, the authorities at Seville, Cadiz, and Xeres had recently observed an increase of agilation among the Anarchists in the towns of Xeres, Aacos, ami Lebrija, and information sent by tho local authorities led them to believe that some disturbance would take place, and on Friday night the authorities arrested sixty-five Anarchists, who wero lodged in goal at Xeres. This no doubt irritated
the Anarchists, who sent emissaries through the country around Xeres, inviting the rural Anarchists to atriko, and on many estates the men acted upon these instructions. At half-past eleven o'clock on Friday night (the Btk) some bands of Anarchists, armed with sticks, scythes, knives, and firearms, appeared in the streets shouting " Long live Anarchy!" and "Death to the burgesses." They barbarously murdered a wine merchant and two other persons in [he streets, and divided into three groups each 150 strong, they made a futile attack upon the prison, to liberate their companions, who were shouting inside. Other Anarchists attacked tho barracks, but were easily repelled, dispersed, and pursued by cavalry and infantry, who captured 70 of them. Meanwhile another band had attacked the Town Hall, where the principal authorities were assembled ; but the Civil Guard, night watchmen, and police kept them at bay until, being joined by the military returning from the pursuit of tho second band, tho assailants wero utterly routed. Tho whole affair passed off so rapidly that in two hours the to ra was cleared of the assailants, whom the cavalry pursued into the country, and captured many, including son.e wounded men and the supposed authors of the murders. The Anarchists cut the telegraph lines and plundered several farms, from which they took the horses and mules, hefore entering Xeres, where they expected to be joined by their fellowAnarchists aud the prisoners in the goal, with a view to attack; tho rich people who were attending at the theatre. Tho prisoners have boldly confessed that they intended to sack the town and kill the leading burgesses. One Anarchist was killed and several wounded in the streets. The town was in a state of panic.
