TE KUITI RACE MEETING. The Ta Kuiti race meeting duly came of on Monday, and was well patronised, i large number ot visitors attending fron various parts of the district as well as fron Mokau; a large contingent of those em ployed on the railway formation also cann iu. Ai least 600 were present, and accom modation for them taxed the resources o Messrs Tanner and French to the utmost Beds of coarse were out of the question am lucky were those who managed a sltaki down. The only hi to! that occurred was in the Consolation Race when the rider of Arapi was weighed afte the race and was found to be (lllbs) shm of the weight. Tho stewards therefor awarded the- race to the second horse Pos sum, owned by Mr J. 1. Hetet. As th Maori owner of the horse seemed somewha disconslate at this decision, Possum's owne generously divided the stakes, which wa satisfactorily appreciated. The first rac of the programme was the, Huiwlk Rack Handicap. Distance mHes. Over eight hurdles 3ft Gin high Prize, £10 ; the second horse to receiv lsov out of the stakes. Mr R. Kenwood's b g Muscatelle, lOst 71b (owner) Mr Hira Te Akau's b g Arapi, list (Maori) Chanticleer list, Peter list, and Brt Harte (9st 101b) also started. Arapi baulke at the first hurdle, the others, with th exception of Muscatelle, came to grief a the other side of the course, leaving Mu: catelle to win as he liked. Maiden Rack of Gsovs. One mile and quarter. Mr Wm. Searancke's Skylark (Meredith) •; Mr W. Sill's c m Una (Piri) Captain, Haiwata, Waipawa, Akaram Friar's Boy and Lady Fly also ran. Thi event was won after a moat excitin struggle by a short head. Tk Kuiti Cup Handicap, of losovs. Th second horse to receive 2sovs, from th stake. Distance, 2 miles. Mr Wm. Searancke's b m Fiver, Bst 21b (Meredith) Mr R. Kenwood's b g Alex, Bst 51b, (Conn) Mr Whitinui's Black Ben, 7st 71b, als started. Fiver outpaced the others, an won with ease. Pony Race, of ssovs. For ponies 14.2 an under. Distance, one mile. Mr D. Turner's Friar's Boy (Turner) ... Mr Whitinui's Dynamite Captain, Arakuini, and Maori Girl als started. Won by a length. Settlbb's Race, of Bsovs. Second horse t receive lsov. from the stakes. Mr Win. Searancke's Fiver, Sst 31b (Meredith) Mr J. T. Hetet's br h Possum, 7st 121b, (Turner) : . These were the only starters, and as tn programme stated that three horses shouli start or no race, (Taipo was scratched) tn Stewards decided not award a prize. Mataina, who was brough out in capital condition won easily by twi lengths. Consolation Rack, of ssovs, Distance; one mile. Mr J. T. Hetet's Possum (R. Turner)... J Hira to Akau's Aripi (Maori) ... — ' Bret Harte, Dynamite, Black Ben anc Peter also ran. This was won by Arap after a close race, but being short of weight by eleven pounds he was disqualified.
